New Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza Joins Texas Workforce Commission

    Texas Workforce Commission • Dec 12, 2023

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) welcomed Joe Esparza following his swearing-in ceremony at the Texas Capitol. Governor Greg Abbott appointed Esparza as the Texas Workforce Commission’s new Commissioner Representing Employers, where he will serve almost 650,000 Texas employers that support more than 14 million jobs for Texans.

Joe Esparza of Elgin has served as the Texas Deputy Secretary of State since December 2018. Previously, he served as a senior appointments manager in the Office of the Governor, clerk for the City of Lubbock, and a field technician for the Texas General Land Office.

“The Texas Workforce Commission does an incredible job of connecting employers with a highly skilled workforce and enhancing the lives of Texans through a robust economy,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza. “I look forward to working with my fellow Commissioners to serve employers with best-in-class services.”

Working on behalf of Texas employers, Esparza will address employment issues, workforce development, unemployment taxes and claims, and the business and legal climate affecting public and private employers.

“I congratulate Commissioner Esparza on his recent appointment and welcome him to the Texas Workforce Commission,” said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel. “I look forward to working together to keep the best business climate in the nation for employers and create an even stronger Texas economy for years to come.”

Esparza is a volunteer for the Native Prairies Association of Texas and Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. He received an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps after eight years of active and reserve service. Esparza received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Communications from Texas Tech University.

“I am pleased to welcome Commissioner Esparza to the Texas Workforce Commission,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III. “His experience serving Texans will be an asset to the agency as we continue to address the workforce needs of the Lone Star State.”
